View from the not-so-cheap seats

Sometimes when I tell people I got Stella from a carnival, they look crestfallen. They imagine all manner of abuse and neglect and her being a pitbull only magnifies their immediate suspicion. It isn't a big leap really what with the stories we hear every day in the news but in a general sense, it's completely wrong. Those who automatically think road dogs and cats have it bad, should really think again. Talk to the three felines who live in this motor home. This little clan lives in air conditioned bliss and despite their close quarters, they even have their own dog. Dolly.

It was rumored that while she is extremely lovable and well-adjusted, Dolly does have a little bit of an oral fixation. While Rod and Kathryn are at work, Dolly gets bored occasionally and that's when the cabinet doors start teasing her. Couch cushions snicker behind her back. Her owners remedied the problem with a cloth muzzle which seemed to do the trick.

She went for the piping on those nice captain-style chairs, you know the ones; it's possible after all, to still nibble with the cloth muzzle on.

But here's the best part, ready?

One day mom left the bus and forgot to put the muzzle on Dolly.

No more muzzle. Ha! She chewed it to bits. Dogs the world over must have gotten a chuckle out of that one. Anyway, it has nothing to do with the three cats. I just thought someone should know that people who work on the carnival love and care for their pets just as much as the rest of us do.

I lived with my dogs, on the road, back in the 80's. No dogs, anywhere, had a better life!

I think your blog does a really good job of showing this. I think Americans support the misconception that dogs need big suburban yards to run in. What I've found is that when you have this type of space, you really don't need to interact with your dog as much. Living in smaller spaces, without a yard, really makes you interact with your dog more. Plus, imagine all the socialization and new experiences a dog can have being on the road.

I love how the cat has comandeered the best seat in the motor home.

I'm sure the traveling dogs get their daily walks and an occasional crazy-wild run in the country. I personally wouldn't want to share such close quarters with a dog or two, but to each his own.

See, you started out so good, and then you brought up the muzzle. To leave a cat muzzled for more than the time it gives for a vet exam, I would call that cruel. There are other alternatives, even a larger size crate is better than a muzzle.
Way to go kitty! You show that muzzle who is boss!

ps- I also travelled shows with my dogs.

Oh sorry I get rambling and confuse people, it was the dog (Dolly) that got muzzled, still not the ideal situation (which is why everybody cheered when she destroyed it - I've never heard of anyone muzzling a cat but I guess it happens.
